Today I want to talk about something that affects us all.
Many men and women around the world have to deal with health issues that keep them from living their best life, so in the spirit of helping, I wanted to offer the 10 Best Reasons To Ride A Dirt Bike For Your Health!
I'm trying something new, just bear with me! ;)
Right off the bat, the very best way to improve your health is to get your heart rate up.
The heart is one of the most important (if not THE most important) muscle in the human body. In order to live a healthy life, it has to get a good workout in.
Whether you're riding in your own backyard or a professional style track, the very act of riding gets your heart rate up. It's been said that the average heart rate can head up to 150bpm and on the lower end around 130bpm while riding. Either way, that's a pretty good workout right there!
The very best riders in the world have one very important thing in common. They have great balance!
It goes without saying that the more you do something, the better you get at it.
Practice Makes Perfect!
So if you feel like your balance need some improvement, riding your Dirt Bike around on a regular basis will actually help!
If you've ever felt a little down (and seriously, who hasn't) then one of the best things to do is get out and ride!
The science behind this is pretty clear. Endorphins and Dopamine are released when you jump on a dirt bike and let it rip!
Dopamine is a brain chemical called a neurotransmitter. Neurotransmitters accommodate signaling between nerve cells (neurons). Dopamine is used to modulate certain physiological functions – including memory, motor movement, sleep, cognition, libido and addiction. It is also responsible for regulating mood, pleasure and the reward cycle.
Endorphins interact with the opiate receptors in the brain to reduce our perception of pain and act similarly to drugs such as morphine and codeine. In contrast to the opiate drugs, however, activation of the opiate receptors by the body's endorphins does not lead to addiction or dependence.
So basically, the combination of Dopamine and Endorphins will give you a kick in the pants that will actually make you happy!
If you've ever been out on a track and encountered a hair pin turn, and knew exactly how to get around it without taking a spill, then congratulations! You've effectively given your brain a great deal of stimulation!
There is a lot of information out there that details the connection between a healthy brain and physical activity. The more we have to think about the way we act, the healthier our brains will be.
One of the best and most consistently effective ways of getting a good brain workout is to take a ride through a wooded area. The combination of bumps, ruts, turns and tree avoidance will give you a workout that will leave you breathless and wanting more. Your brain will be very happy with you!
At this point it might be needless to say, since we've already gone over the whole "Practice Makes Perfect" motto, but I'll say it anyway.
You will get a great workout by riding your Dirt Bike!
If you really get into it, your entire body will get used and that's a very good thing!
Going over any sort of uneven terrain works the leg muscles, core muscles and arm muscles.
Looking and pre-planning where you're going (with a helmet on your head!) improves your neck and back strength.
Having good control over your motorcycle is vital to having a great time while on it.
A lot of people wind up going to a gym or just lifting weights at home to build up more strength in order to have more control.
I'm sure you've seen those commercials that talk about "Endurance" in men.
While I agree that endurance in the bedroom is certainly a good thing, endurance in your everyday life is also incredibly important!
Greater endurance means that you can run farther, swim longer or jump greater distances.
It also means that you won't get tired of riding before you're done.
A great way to improve overall endurance is to get a good workout in, and what's a great workout?
Riding your Dirt Bike of course!
(Seeing a trend here?)
Endurance goes right alongside better balance and stronger muscles.
Enjoying nature is something that everyone really should do. It's easy to stay inside and play games, watch TV and just be inactive. After all, a body at rest tends to stay at rest.
However, there are many health benefits to being out in nature!
There is a general consensus that "Grounding" helps maintain a good mood and general sense of well being.
Grounding is when you go walk around bare foot. Well, there's a bit more to it, but that's the general idea.
When you're out in nature, and in between riding, take your boots and socks off and let the dirt get in between your toes. Trust me, it will feel awesome!
Beyond that, of course, is the peace and calm that comes along with just being in nature. Listening to the birds sing, the wind move through the trees and watching the clouds move across the bright blue sky all have excellent calming effects on the human body. Almost like we're meant to be out there! Imagine that.
At this point, we've gone over how you can gain greater endurance and strength, but one other benefit is burning calories and in turn, Weight Loss!
If you look at all of the major riders in MX, you won't see too many overweight people (in fact that number will be exactly zero!).
The main reason for this is the constant workouts these guys (and girls) get while riding.
When you put stress on the body, a few different things happen. The body responds by adapting to the stress through improvement. Muscles get bigger and stronger, balance improves and excess stored energy in the form of fat gets burned off.
In order to make those crazy jumps that are a staple of any good Motocross Race, the rider needs to have a very high muscle to weight ratio.
So, while it's more of a side effect of regular riding, it shouldn't be discounted either. Good health requires a regular burning of calories, which results in a really fun weight loss plan!
As you ride around, you will notice a remarkable thing happen. Your muscles will be both stronger and looser. You won't have as many sore back issues.
As you journey to better health on the Dirt Bike Regimen, you will gain one more benefit in better posture!
Chiropractors will tell you that good posture is THE key to great health.
In order to have great posture, you need to have a strong back and powerful core muscles.
Sitting around in front of a computer or playing video games will reduce your muscle mass and strength, which will in turn make your posture weaker and drive up health problems.
We are meant to move, not be sedentary!
Riding a Dirt Bike is not only a great way to get a fun workout in, it's also a way to improve the overall health of your spine and central nervous system.
(Provided you don't hurt yourself in a crash of course!)
Something that we haven't really touched on yet is the idea of community. There's something to be said for spending time with people that enjoy the same things that you do.
There are a lot of groups around that meet up on a regular basis to ride. Whether you're a newbie or seasoned rider, doing anything with friends is always better than being alone.
A community will help each other improve, teach each other new things, keep each other accountable and provide support when needed.
Interpersonal communication has really been lost with the advent of social media, so finding a group of friends that you can get out and have fun with is so much more important now than ever before.
It could be as simple as a best friend that you compete with, or the love of your life going on rides together with you.
The best thing to do though, is grab your bestie and your spouse and find a group to ride together with.
We have a number of people in the store that do this very thing and could get you hooked up with a group that will accept you with open arms.
